Here is the necklace that I've been writing about for a while now. I can't even remember when I first started making the fabric embellishment, but it was a while ago. I used this wonderful tutorial and it was super fun and easy. I searched my fabric stash for something vintage, because that's what I really envisioned here, but I couldn't find anything I was willing to cut up or that would work for what I had in mind. I finally found a pretty print, (wish I had photographed it for this post) and clipped the butterfly because I thought it would work out nicely for a first try and a necklace. When it was done, I embellished the embellishment. Ha, ha! Then I hooked it up to jump rings and a chain. Last night, while watching all of the inaugural news, I "assembled" (as Jenn so aptly put it) a pair of earrings to go along with it.
I'm definitely making more fabric embellishments in the future, so I've been on the lookout for vintage floral prints. I'd like to make some (what else?) hair accessories, specifically headbands...or perhaps some retro-style combs to push the hair back on one side...
like the kind I wore in junior high, only cuter.
